“How we treat our children changes who they are and how they will develop. Their brains need our parental involvement. Nature needs nurture.” ~ Daniel J. Siegel, MD

Support For Parents

Types of Support

Counseling

Parenting can be extremely challenging, and it is common for people to feel stress, fear, overwhelm, and anxiety, especially in the beginning of parenthood. Babies, toddlers, and young children are completely dependent on parents, so by definition, this is a lot of work! Parenting is also a massive life change. Not only is it hard (and complications such as a difficult birth or pregnancy, medical issues, etc. make it harder), but there is a huge learning curve in parenting, as well. Different child issues and child temperaments mixed with parent needs and temperaments can make some situations harder than others. Counseling during early parenthood can help you process emotional buildup, clear mental space, examine priorities, learn tools, and feel more supported during this time. More

Coaching

Parenting toddlers and young children can be some of the hardest and busiest times in life, and these are also some of the most important times in family development and in developing the relationship you will have with your child(ren). Child upset and meltdowns during this time are to be expected, and how you handle them greatly influences your child’s development. There are no one-size-fits-all parent responses that are best for children. Taking the time to learn about your child’s unique needs, personality, and temperament and how to best communicate and connect with them can make a profound difference in your relationship with them, the way your family functions, their early experiences, and parent levels of joy and satisfaction. Consultation

People seek consultation during early childhood for a wide variety of topics. Some of these topics include whether or not to pursue therapy for their child, and if so, which types of therapies to pursue; questions related to divorce, separation, moving, introducing new partners, or blending families. I also consult with extended family members and step-parents who want to know how they can best support parents and children. Please note, consultation does not include an intake session, which means I will not have enough background information to give in-depth personalized advice. Consultation is for people who have specific general questions and do not want or need ongoing support. More

Do You Take Insurance?

Counseling is a reimbursable services, but I am “out of network” with insurance companies. This means I can give you a superbill for counseling services, and you can submit this directly to your insurance company. They will then reimburse you according to your specific plan benefits. I recommend contacting them and asking, “what are my out of network benefits for mental health services?” Many clients receive significant reimbursement.

Sadly, Coaching and Consultation are not services that are covered by health insurance plans. Some people have successfully used HSA for coaching and consultation, therefore it may be worthwhile to contact your HSA company to find out if they would cover services with me.

How Do I Get Started?

Click on the Counseling, Coaching, or Consultation pages (above or in the menu bar) for info about how to begin with each. If you are not sure which service would be the best fit for you, please contact me. I offer a free consult call to new clients and am happy to help determine if we could be a good fit for working together, and if so, which service may be the most helpful for you.
